Role overview

Extreme Networks is hiring a remote Systems Engineer for its sales engineering organization. The role supports customers, prospects and channel partners through technical consulting, solution design and pre-sales work. Rather than building the company’s networking products, this engineer helps account teams explain, demonstrate and validate how those products meet a customer’s requirements. The official posting names a Northern Germany territory around Hamburg, Bremen and Hannover. It also requires domestic or international travel, so “remote” describes the work arrangement, not an unrestricted ability to work from any country.

The work starts before a customer makes a purchase. You will discuss network needs with account teams, present Extreme technologies at both executive and technical depth, and turn requirements into a proposed design. Requests for information and proposals are part of the role, as are demonstrations and proof-of-concept labs. A successful proof of concept needs agreed evaluation criteria and a design that addresses the customer’s environment. The engineer also joins virtual specialist teams when an opportunity needs expertise beyond the immediate account team.

This is a customer-facing networking role with a commercial component. Extreme asks for a successful pre-sales engineering record, experience with major accounts and closing deals, and the ability to become a trusted adviser to customer and partner contacts. The posting calls for fluent German and English presentation skills. It does not say the position is open to applicants working from Vietnam, and the territory and travel requirements should be checked with the employer before applying from outside Germany.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technology and product consulting for sales opportunities in the Northern Germany territory. Translate customer questions into clear explanations of how Extreme’s networking portfolio could fit their existing environment, operational goals and constraints.
  • Work with account teams on technical sales support. Deliver both high-level presentations for decision makers and deeper technical sessions for customer engineers, prospects and channel partners.
  • Help prepare RFI and RFP responses. Explain relevant architecture, features and deployment considerations accurately so a proposed solution addresses the requirements in the customer’s request.
  • Organize and lead proof-of-concept activities. Build or support lab demonstrations, agree success criteria with customer project teams and show whether the proposed design meets those criteria.
  • Design network solutions around customer requirements, including the access network, switching, routing, wireless connectivity and security topics named in the posting. Support evaluations, demonstrations and detailed design discussions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customer and partner contacts as a technical adviser. Advocate for customer needs internally and coordinate with other specialists on virtual teams when an account needs additional expertise.
  • Support channel partners with technical training when needed. The employer also asks for willingness to take a team-lead role for an account team if business growth requires more resources.
  • Travel domestically or internationally as the customer territory and account work require. The employer does not provide a travel percentage or a fixed office attendance schedule.

Qualifications

  • Fluent German and English, with strong presentation skills for both business and technical audiences. The role involves customer-facing explanations, product demonstrations and partner conversations.
  • A successful pre-sales engineering track record in a comparable industry and territory. Extreme also asks for experience with major accounts and with closing deals.
  • Sound grounding in Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, IPv4 and IPv6 routing concepts, overlay networks and VPNs, Wi-Fi operation and design, and network security principles.
  • Ability to work with customer project teams on solution designs and proof-of-concept labs, including setting measurable criteria for a successful evaluation.
  • Practical hands-on lab experience and the ability to support customer evaluations, demonstrations and detailed design requirements.
  • Ability to develop trusted relationships with customers and partners, advocate for customer needs inside Extreme and collaborate across virtual specialist teams.
  • Useful additional experience includes cloud technologies and cloud-based network management, compute and network virtualization, management and orchestration software, SD-WAN, automation scripting and APIs.
  • Experience training partners is a plus. Extreme Networks certifications and recognized industry certifications are desirable, though the posting does not make them mandatory.

Benefits

  • Extreme advertises on-target earnings of 80–95K with a 70/30 split. The posting does not identify the currency or explain the individual commission plan; confirm both directly with the employer.
  • The employer lists technical and personal development resources and says it provides current work equipment for the role.
  • Eligible employees can voluntarily join a subsidized Employee Stock Purchase Program. The posting also refers to commission earnings.
  • Extreme describes a Flex First work model and flexibility in taking time off. This remote designation still sits alongside a Northern Germany sales territory and a stated travel requirement.
  • The posting lists employee assistance programs and insurance related to business travel, pension provision, life cover and occupational disability. Exact policy terms and eligibility should be confirmed in the hiring process.

About Extreme Networks

Extreme Networks is an enterprise networking company founded in Silicon Valley in 1996. Its official company page describes secure, AI-powered cloud networking and lists products across cloud management, network fabric, wired access, wireless access and network security. The company says its products help organizations simplify and secure how people and devices connect.

The employer reports more than 50,000 customers worldwide in its job posting and describes hubs in Europe, North America, South America, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Its company page lists more than 2,800 employees and more than 11,000 channel partners. Those figures describe the company as published by Extreme and may change over time.

For a sales engineer, that portfolio matters because customer work can span several layers of the network. The job posting specifically mentions cloud-managed wireless, switching, routing and security, together with cloud management and automation. The Systems Engineer’s task is to relate those capabilities to customer requirements through presentations, designs and proof-of-concept work, not to develop the underlying products.
