Role overview
SearchApi seeks a hands-on staff engineer to improve its Ruby on Rails product across APIs, billing, authentication, dashboards and frontend work. Responsibilities
- Implement complex features, refactors and performance-critical changes and review other engineers’ pull requests.
- Build enterprise capabilities such as SAML, SCIM, audit logs and permissions.
- Maintain Stripe subscriptions, webhooks and usage-based billing logic.
- Improve API playgrounds, dashboards and developer experience, including usable interfaces built with Tailwind.
- Profile memory, CPU and database queries, address bottlenecks, work with native gems when needed and review security.
Qualifications
- Extensive production Ruby on Rails experience and evidence of systems personally built and shipped.
- Required Stripe experience with subscriptions, payments and webhooks.
- Product judgement, authentication and authorisation knowledge, practical UI design and performance debugging.
- Clear English writing, independent work and a computer science degree or equivalent background.
- Terraform, AWS, large-scale services and Rails open-source contributions are useful additional experience.
