Senior Backend Engineer, Safety at Reddit

Role overview

Reddit’s Safety and Moderation organisation builds tools that help community moderators keep Reddit safe, healthy and scalable. This senior backend role ships high-impact moderator features and shapes technical and product strategy.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver backend services and features for moderator and safety tooling.
• Work with product, design, frontend and mobile engineers on reliable, intuitive experiences.
• Own technical and product strategy, operations, architecture and execution for major initiatives.
• Improve performance, reliability, observability and maintainability of moderator systems.
• Collaborate with community and safety stakeholders to understand needs and measure impact.
• Mentor engineers and raise standards for enterprise engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on backend engineering experience with modern enterprise languages and practices.
• Experience building production APIs, services and distributed systems.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and own projects from design through rollout and operation.
• Understanding of safety, moderation, trust, community or other high-scale user-facing systems.
• Strong communication, technical judgement and problem-solving skills.
