Role overview

GitLab’s Gitaly team builds the Git data-storage tier that provides reliable, secure and fast repository access through APIs and storage operations. The work covers distributed storage, repository management, availability, performance, observability and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Design and maintain Go services that sit between GitLab and Git and serve repository operations for GitLab.com, self-managed and Dedicated customers.
Improve repository storage scalability, reliability, performance and high availability across distributed systems.
Build APIs and storage operations with clear contracts, observability and operational safeguards.
Investigate production behaviour, diagnose failures and contribute to incident response and root-cause analysis.
Balance roadmap delivery with technical debt, code quality and long-term maintainability.
Collaborate asynchronously with engineers across time zones and document designs and operational learnings.

Qualifications

Professional experience building backend services in Go or a comparable systems language.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, storage, networking, performance and high-availability concepts.
Experience designing APIs and production services with testing, observability and operational ownership.
Ability to reason about repository or source-control data and work at the boundary between applications and storage.
Good written communication and ability to work independently in a remote, async-first engineering organisation.
Curiosity about Git internals, repository management, scaling source-code storage and customer-facing reliability.
