Role overview

This globally remote role works with major silicon partners to bring next-generation hardware features and performance to Ubuntu. The engineering scope stretches from the kernel through networking, virtualisation and graphics to the device and application experience across IoT, desktop and server platforms.

Responsibilities

Design and implement Ubuntu integration for new IoT, desktop and server hardware.
Coordinate with hardware partners on technical plans, test strategies and quality measures for their platforms.
Lead customer discussions covering full architectures from cloud to edge.
Help partners integrate applications and SDKs, build Ubuntu device images and optimise workloads on Ubuntu Core, Desktop and Server.
Investigate system performance, compatibility and security across the Linux stack.

Qualifications

Computer science or related STEM degree, with experience in Python, C or C++.
Linux packaging experience with Debian, RPM or Yocto and familiarity with open-source communities and licences.
Knowledge of server or embedded hardware, such as firmware, bootloaders, GPUs, RDMA or virtualisation.
Understanding of graphics and networking protocols including TCP/IP, DHCP or HTTP/REST.
Ability to work independently in a global team; CI, benchmarking, containers and security practices are relevant additional skills.
