Senior Software Engineer, TypeScript, Duo CLI at GitLab

Role overview

GitLab’s Duo CLI team builds tools that bring GitLab Duo into developers’ terminal workflows. The role works mainly in TypeScript across frontend and backend, with opportunities to contribute to JetBrains and VS Code clients.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AI-assisted terminal experiences and supporting infrastructure for GitLab Duo CLI.
• Make architectural decisions about the CLI’s direction while maintaining code quality, performance and reliability.
• Develop shared client components and integrations across TypeScript, Kotlin and the Duo Client SDK when needed.
• Break down complex problems, align technical direction and provide engineering leadership through design and code review.
• Collaborate with Developer Clients and AI Clients engineers to ship secure, testable features.
• Improve observability, testing, documentation and production support for developer-facing AI workflows.

Qualifications

• Strong professional software-engineering experience building TypeScript applications or services.
• Experience designing developer tools, command-line interfaces, APIs or cross-platform client experiences.
• Ability to reason about AI-assisted workflows, reliability, security, performance and user experience.
• Experience with frontend and backend TypeScript; Kotlin, VS Code extensions or JetBrains plugins are useful.
• Ability to lead technical decisions and work asynchronously with a globally distributed team.
• Strong written communication and commitment to maintainable, well-tested code.
