Role overview

Kake is a remote-first engineering community. This Senior iOS Video Player Engineer role owns live-video playback for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV in a mature, high-scale streaming environment.

Responsibilities

Design, build and maintain live video playback for iOS and tvOS applications.
Optimise HLS playback with AVPlayer, focusing on startup time, buffering, latency and stability.
Troubleshoot errors, stalls and drift from the live edge in live-streaming environments.
Tune playback performance at scale and use video analytics and QoE metrics to improve viewing quality.
Collaborate across teams on device reliability and contribute streaming best practices.

Qualifications

Six or more years of iOS development with deep Swift and Objective-C experience.
Production experience building video players or live-playback components for iOS or tvOS.
Hands-on HLS and AVPlayer tuning and troubleshooting for live streaming.
Understanding of latency, live edge, drift, adaptive-bitrate logic and DRM integration.
Experience with QoE analytics such as Mux or Conviva, strong English communication and independent remote work.
Sports streaming, live ad technology and distributed-team time-zone overlap are helpful.
