Role overview

Canonical is seeking an early-career Linux support engineer to own technical cases from first contact through resolution. Problems can range from cloud and desktop configuration to server faults and kernel crashes. The employer marks the opening globally remote.

Responsibilities

Receive and manage support cases by phone, email and web, keeping customers informed and meeting service commitments.
Investigate Ubuntu and open-source issues across cloud, desktop, server and IoT products; escalate complex cases to senior engineers when needed.
Use knowledge of the Ubuntu development process to explain the likely path and timing of fixes.
Write and maintain knowledge-base articles and technical notices so solutions can be shared.
Prioritise urgent cases, coordinate with remote colleagues and take part in the regular weekend rotation.

Qualifications

Practical Linux troubleshooting, including logs, stack traces and configuration changes.
Basic experience in at least two of Linux server administration, programming or scripting, networking, and virtualisation or cloud operations.
A technical degree or a well-supported alternative path, strong written and spoken English, and the ability to handle customer-facing pressure.
Availability for international company events twice yearly, potentially lasting up to two weeks each; the employer also states that a background check applies.
Useful additional experience includes KVM, VirtualBox or VMware, open-source desktop systems and contributions to open-source projects.
