C++ and Rust Graphics Engineer for Mir at Canonical

Role overview

The Mir team builds a graphics and windowing stack for Ubuntu Frame, single-purpose screens, edge devices and desktop environments. The employer lists remote locations in APAC and EMEA.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features across the Mir graphics and windowing stack.
• Trace and fix defects, add tests and performance benchmarks, and improve developer documentation.
• Review code and architecture with the engineering team and work with open-source communities and commercial partners.
• Collaborate remotely on graphics enablement for Ubuntu-certified hardware.

Qualifications

• A computer science or similar STEM degree and at least two years of relevant work experience, as specified by the employer.
• Strong modern C++ and Rust programming skills and familiarity with Linux development and deployment.
• Ability to work effectively with a remote team and travel internationally twice yearly for company events lasting up to two weeks.
• Useful additional knowledge includes Wayland compositors, OpenGL, Vulkan, Flutter, graphics toolkits and asynchronous or concurrent programming.
