Backend Software Engineer, Anti-Abuse at Grab

Role overview

Responsibilities

• We are looking for an Entry-Level Software Engineer, Backend to join our Anti-Abuse Engineering team. You will work on building and maintaining backend services, APIs, and data systems that power fraud detection, abuse prevention, and risk management across Grab's platform. As an entry-level engineer, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers while contributing to systems that impact millions of users.
• Develop and maintain backend services and APIs that support fraud detection and abuse prevention systems.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following established engineering standards and best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and design discussions to learn from senior engineers and improve code quality.
• Collaborate with backend engineers, data engineers, and SREs to understand system architecture and operational requirements.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues in production systems with guidance from senior team members.
• Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.
• Work on assigned tasks and features with a focus on timely delivery and quality.
• Participate in team meetings and sync-ups to stay aligned on project goals and priorities.

Qualifications

• You have 1-3 years of professional backend software development experience
• You have proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Java, Python, Go, C++, or similar)
• You have experience with RESTful API design and development principles
• You have experience with relational and non-relational database systems
• You have proficiency with version control systems (Git)
• You have familiarity with AI tools and hands-on experience using them
• You have Agile/Scrum development experience
• You demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn from experienced engineers

• Familiarity with microservices architecture concepts
• Basic experience with containerization technologies (Docker)
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and basic DevOps practices

• Interest in security or fraud prevention systems
