Senior DevOps Engineer, Streaming Platform at Grab

Role overview

The Streaming Data team (aka "Coban") strives to enable seamless and secure real-time access to the events or "streams", serving as Grab's unified, common access pattern for real-time data. The functional areas this team covers are streaming (Kafka), stream processing (Flink, Flink SQL, Kafka Connect), Change Data Capture, near real-time lake ingestion, stream exploration ( Zeppelin, Flink SQL Gateway ), and an in-house control plane for tenancy and resource management.

Responsibilities

• Making Flink deployments safer through platform guardrails and production deployment patterns ( Safer deployment of streaming applications ).
• Improving Flink release confidence with shadow testing ( Enhancing Flink deployment with shadow testing ).
• Strengthening real-time Kafka data quality with syntactic and semantic stream contracts ( Real-time data quality monitoring ).
• Using machine learning to make Flink autoscaling more predictable and reliable ( Machine-learning predictive autoscaling for Flink ).
• In an agentic world, high-quality real-time signals are becoming even more critical to drive automation, decision-making, and measurable business impact.
• Apache Flink is a critical real-time infrastructure layer for Grab. By making stream processing easier, safer, and more self-serve, this role helps unlock more real-time signals and turn data into business value across Grab. As Grab embraces agentic engineering, we welcome builders with strong data infrastructure experience and a passion for stream processing to join us.
• Work with a team of engineers to make Stream Processing easy, reliable, efficient and secure across Grab, via self-served capabilities baked in our platform.
• Orchestrate and operate the Cloud infrastructure and Compute cluster that lays the foundation for the systems, maintaining the uptime for many critical services.
• Improve the automation and self-served capabilities that enable our small team to Help with 1000+ Stream Processing applications in Grab.
• Weigh in on design questions around platformization, infrastructure, observability and security.
• Contribute to the use of Stream Processing across Grab, by evangelizing for our platform and products, and by directly helping our internal users design and build the next game-changing real-time application for Grab.
• Create the abstractions, modules and libraries to lower the barrier of entry to Stream Processing in Grab and shift the maintenance and security toil away from our users.
• Contribute to and evolve on-call and incident response procedures for the team.

Qualifications

• The nice-to-haves.
• 4+ years of experience in Kubernetes, Docker and Cloud infrastructure at scale.
• Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code like Terraform.
• experience in CI/CD pipelines design and implementation.
• Proficient with at least one programming language: Python, Golang, Java, Scala.
• experience in Observability and Monitoring stack (LGTM, ELK, Datadog, or similar).
• Strong English communication skills, you will work together with peers and engineering teams across regional Tech offices.
• experience in big-data systems is a big plus (especially Kafka and Flink).
• You are excited to learn and apply new technologies.
• experience in AWS, Gitlab.
• Understanding of K8s networking concepts (service mesh, service discovery).
• Understanding of security concept and practices, secret managements, encryption, OAuth, RBAC/ABAC.
